Conversation School is an online platform where learners can learn informal French in fun, real-world ways.

Our main aim is to help people acquire a new language to unlock exciting opportunities. We'd love to keep it free forever, but it's very likely that as we grow, we may need to build a grow our team and build out more features. But for now, it's free to join!

As we've said, we're a small team with very limited resources and we recognise that we can't help everyone.

  • We wanted a way to ensure that we're helping only people who are willing to commit to the course because this is the only way this Experience can be meaningful for us as well. It's why we've put a price barrier on entry.
  • The fee you see is a temporary fee (commitment deposit) which will be refunded to you 100% if you complete the course to schedule, that is, within your 6-week cohort.
  • At the end of the course, we usually give you the option to let us keep this commitment deposit if you would like to help us help more people to onboard (the more people, the more opportunity for practice for everyone!).
  • If you let us keep your commitment deposit, then we say 'thank you' by giving you a few extra perks such as a printable certificate, etc. (see Signup).

If you are unable to finish, your initial deposit will not be refunded to you. We're focused on getting you to speak conversational, informal French in 6 weeks through daily interaction with peers in a cohort. You'll learn over 1000 of the most used words & phrases, including greetings, common questions, expressions, filler words, idioms and more, picked from dialogues, memes, cartoons, skits, vlogs, movies and more.

A cohort is a six week period within which you have to finish your course; it's a perfect timeframe for an intensive learning sprint like this one. You can also think of a cohort as a group of learners learning together at a specific time. This arrangement ensures you are not learning alone, and you have a support and accountability group to help you stay motivated and also for practice.

No, it's totally doable! We are not promising that you'll be fluent just yet. But you'll be functionally conversational, which is the sweet spot we want to get you to. Why? Because this will boost your confidence and encourage you to get into more conversations so you can continue to pick up even more French in the same natural way that you learned to speak your first language.

Absolutely! One of the best features of the Experience is that you get ample opportunities to practice your language skill. So if you already know some French, you can use the course to test and improve your skill.

You can expect to reach between A2 (upper beginner) & Low B1 (conversational intermediate). This means you'll be able to introduce yourself, talk about everyday topics and understand/respond in basic conversations (functionally conversational). You will struggle a bit with grammar & complex tenses, but you'll make yourself understood in real-life, informal situations enough to keep conversing, which is how you will continue to improve outside this course.

Our language course is very immersive and daily contact with the language using written explanations, audio and video pronunciation assistance tools, with spaced repetition aids to help you retain more vocabulary. We encourage practice over perfection, so our speaking activities will encourage you to speak often even if you make mistakes. Moreover, you will be placed in a community where you'll have lots of interactions with peers, with an instructor or a moderators ready to offer corrections.

You'll be able to self correct by comparing recordings of yourself speaking with the pre-recorded audio in the flashcards. Also, we encourage you to use your new language as much as possible outside the course so your listeners can correct you—that's half the fun of learning a new language!

No. However, it will set you up to start strong and finish up any other certification.

We deliver the course to you through our learning platform, which has plugged into it reading materials, cartoons, videos, flashcards, audio aids, downloadable worksheets, templates, and more. Group work happens in our friendly community on Discord.

We estimate that you can plan to spend 1 - 1.5 hours per day, split across self study, listening, and speaking components of the course.

The language of instruction is English. You will learn French words and phrases, and their English Language translations.

It's straightforward to ask for a refund. But before you do, we want to tell you about the perks you will get if you let us keep your commitment deposit.

If you let us keep your commitment deposit, you'll be moved from the FREE to PREMIUM study plan and you'll be eligible for the PREMIUM PERKS. The premium perks are a bundle of extras that you'll get when you choose to allow us keep your commitment deposit. Here's a complete breakdown of the difference between the FREE & PREMIUM study plans:

  • Course access: If you let us keep your commitment deposit, you'll have lifetime access to the course, otherwise we'll withdraw you from the learning platform after you complete your course and get a refund.
  • Course materials: Whether you let us keep your commitment deposit or not, you'll get to keep all the downloadable resources offered with the course.
  • Discord community: When you join the course, you'll be added to our Discord Community so you can have lots of practice with peers. Mentors or instructors will also be available within the community to listen in on conversations and offer corrections. But you'll be removed from the community at the end of your cohort if you are refunded, otherwise you are free to stay on and continue to improve your new language skill and even help others!
  • Certificate of completion: Only students who pay us will get the printable certificate signed by the instructor.
  • Travel advisory: Some students want to travel to a French-speaking country for language immersion after the course. We provide non-legal, informal advisory to help out if you pay us—and you can also ask questions in the community to gain from the wealth of experience!
